Estudou e viajou pela Gr\u00e3-Bretanha e pela Holanda e morou e trabalhou em Amsterd\u00e3, onde come\u00e7ou como comerciente e se tornou fabricante de instrumentos cient\u00edficos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Descobriu um m\u00e9todo para limpar o merc\u00fario de forma que este n\u00e3o aderisse a um tubo de vidro e isto seria essencial para a inven\u00e7\u00e3o do seu term\u00f4metro de merc\u00fario. Ap\u00f3s conhecer o f\u00edsico Willem Jacob&#8217;s Gravesande, foi convencido a se dedicar \u00e0 f\u00edsica experimental, em especial \u00e0 fabrica\u00e7\u00e3o de aparelhos meteorol\u00f3gicos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div  align=\"left\" id=\"google\" class=\"google\">\n<script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\n<!-- Responsivo1 -->\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\n     style=\"display:block; background:#FFF\"\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-8479963969486292\"\n     data-ad-slot=\"8933646630\"\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins>\n<script>\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Passando a maior parte da vida entre a Holanda e a Inglaterra, onde se especializou na constru\u00e7\u00e3o de aparelhos meteorol\u00f3gicos, passou a se dedicar ao aperfei\u00e7oamento dos processos e t\u00e9cnicas de fabrica\u00e7\u00e3o de instrumentos como term\u00f4metros, bar\u00f4metros, higr\u00f4metros e aer\u00f4metros, especialmente com o objetivo de obter leituras mais precisas. Come\u00e7ou a produzir o term\u00f4metros a \u00e1lcool (1709) com a escala termom\u00e9trica inventada (1708) pelo germ\u00e2nico Ole R\u00f6mer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Inventou o term\u00f4metro de merc\u00fario (1714), substituindo assim, o \u00e1lcool pelo merc\u00fario na confec\u00e7\u00e3o deste tipo de aparelho. Morreu em Haia, Holanda, e sua grande contribui\u00e7\u00e3o a ci\u00eancia foi a cria\u00e7\u00e3o da escala Fahrenheit, uma nova escala uniforme de leitura da temperatura, utilizada at\u00e9 os dias de hoje nos pa\u00edses anglo-sax\u00f5es, onde a temperatura de congelamento da \u00e1gua ou fus\u00e3o do gelo \u00e0 press\u00e3o de uma atmosfera est\u00e1 a 32\u00b0F (0\u00b0C) e a de ebuli\u00e7\u00e3o, ponto m\u00e1ximo, a 212\u00b0F (100\u00b0C).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Para criar os pontos fixos de temperatura de sua escala, aperfei\u00e7oou as t\u00e9cnicas desenvolvidas por R\u00f6mer, a quem visitara anteriormente (1708): levou a temperatura de uma mistura de \u00e1gua de gelo e sal como o ponto baixo e a temperatura de corpo humana como o ponto alto. O espa\u00e7o entre ele dividiu em 96 graus.
