A s\u00e9rie Balmer \u00e9 calculada utilizando a f\u00f3rmula Balmer, uma equa\u00e7\u00e3o emp\u00edrica descoberta em 1885.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>O espectro de luz vis\u00edvel a partir exibe hidrog\u00eanio quatro comprimentos de onda, 410 nm, 434 nm, 486 nm e 656 nm, que correspondem \u00e0s emiss\u00f5es de f\u00f3tons por el\u00e9trons em estados excitados em transi\u00e7\u00e3o para o n\u00edvel qu\u00e2ntico descrito pelo n\u00famero qu\u00e2ntico principal n \u00e9 igual a 2. H\u00e1 tamb\u00e9m um certo n\u00famero de linhas de Balmer ultravioleta com comprimentos de onda mais curtos do que 400 nm<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Os espectros de linhas dos elementos foram estudados sistematicamente a partir dos \u00faltimas d\u00e9cadas do s\u00e9culo XIX. Foi verificado que as linhas tendem a se agrupar em s\u00e9ries.
